Places Prize Fund
You can submit your photos for free. However, to meet the needs of our growing community of photographers, we have also developed the Places Prize Fund. So why not take the opportunity of receiving a cash prize whilst at the same time making a charitable donation to the World Food Programme? To be eligible for the Places Prize Fund, all we ask is for you to contribute £1 / $2 per entry.
The entry fee allows us to collect a prize fund which is based on the number of photos submitted within each 6 month period, with half the fund less 10% for fees being paid to the winner and the remainder less 10% going to the charity.
Entries in this competition are judged by independent judges based on eligibility criteria and merit.
First Places Prize Fund Winner (Closing Date 16 January 2008)
Congratulations to Richard Lewis, who won a total of £146.30, for his photo no 160, 'Mt. Etna'.
What Richard had to say:
'I came across www.millionplacesonearth.com one day on Google as I was searching for a different site. I thought the idea of one million unique photos was brilliant so I immediately uploaded some of my photos from the various different places I'd visited. Turns out that the judges enjoyed my photo of Mount Etna in Sicily and I was the winner of the 1st Places Prize Fund. The money will go nicely towards a snowboarding holiday in the French Alps where hopefully I can get a few more unique photos to upload onto the site. Thanks guys.'
Second Places Prize Fund Winner (Closing Date 16th July 2008)
Congratulations to Simon Bradfield, who has won a total of £19.35, for his photo no 1106, 'A Day at the Museum'.
What Simon had to say:
'I was extremely excited to hear that I'd bagged the second places prize fund in the Millionplacesonearth photo competition. Many of the other pictures in the competition were of the highest calibre, so I feel extremely chuffed that one of my offerings did so well when it could so easily have been one of many others. Rest assured I'll spend the prize money wisely, most likely in the shape of a beer or two (so the new EF 24-105 mm lens I want will have to wait)!'
Third Places Prize Fund: The closing date is 16 January 2009.
The Charity
Million Places on Earth is about the World and everything in it. We want to bring people together from around the World to celebrate our planet and break a World record in the process.
However, we also want to contribute back to the planet in which we exist and therefore we are offering your donations to the United Nations World Food Programme, a charitable organisation which is focused on working towards the relief of World hunger – which we think it is a pretty good thing. It would be great for such a cause to benefit from Million Places on Earth. For further information on the World Food Programme visit www.wfp.org.
* The fund for the charity currently stands at £165.65. *
